Consider volunteering at one of our meals. For example, you may want to show up to the Church at 3pm on a Friday afternoon and help prepare or serve the weekly Community Meal -- or do the same for our Sunday morning Friendship Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Please call Director of Outreach, Kevin Simon at 401–331–8900 for information on volunteering.

Hello Friends,

We at the Mathewson Street Friendship Breakfast are so incredibly thankful for friends like you who have supported our efforts to provide compassionate support and friendship to RI's most underserved men, women, and children.

Each week we provide a bountiful meal, a handshake or a hug, and then get to work helping our Sunday guests. We work tirelessly every week to provide warm clothing and supplies to get our friends through another long, cold week. We assist them in finding apartments and furnishings, stable employment, and provide toys and gifts for parents who can't afford to get them for their children. Most importantly however, we offer our friendship. We support and celebrate them as they experience setbacks and successes!

What I love about Mathewson Street Church is that we proudly serve on the front lines of the fight against homelessness and food insecurity. We provide hospitality and hope to those among us who are living their darkest days. We seek to create stability in the lives of our guests through short and long term interventions. Sometimes it is driving somebody to look at an apartment or an important doctors appointment. Other times it's just providing a pair of clean underwear and pants. We do all of those things and more in a way that honors that person as an individual, and treats him or her with the dignity and respect that we all desire and deserve!

What I also love about Mathewson Street Church is that everyone is valued for their unique talents and abilities. Each week we serve over 800 meals over the course of four days. Many of these meals are staffed by homeless or formerly homeless individuals who posses many skills and talents. Our guests want to give back, they want to feel productive and be contributing members of our community. Homelessness may describe one's current living situation, but it does not define who that person is. Our brothers and sisters on the street are talented musicians, skilled nurses, former educators, skilled crafts people, and amazing cooks. I love that we provide the opportunity for everyone to share their gifts and talents each and every week

Many of you have supported The Friendship Breakfast through your donations of food, time, service or monetary contributions. We would not be beginning our 10th year of providing this Sunday meal without each and every one of you! I know you have many options when it comes to your giving. However, I hope you will consider giving once again to Mathewson Street Church.

The day-to-day costs of maintaining our facilities and supporting our many ministries are significant. Please consider giving a donation by check or online.
